10 What Had Ben Done?

Ben burned his fingertips for the fiftieth time that day when he forgot the oven mitts. He’d added salt instead of sugar to his apple pie. It was one mistake after another, and he couldn’t wait for the day to be over. All he could think about was what happened in Psycho’s kitchen the day before. That’s why he was still there trying to fix everything before he had to open in the morning.

That wasn’t him. He didn’t get turned on my dirty talk or someone ordering him around. Hell, he was straight hands and knees with the lights off, quick shower and bed afterward. A quick, impersonal kiss. At least that’s what his partners in the past had done, and he might not have enjoyed every aspect of it, but he’d always gotten off.

He’d woken up that morning hard after dreaming of Psycho’s big body draped over his. The way Psycho’s teeth had pinched Ben’s shoulder as he’d come on his lower back. Don’t even get him started on the blowjob. His face was hot, and it had nothing to do with the ovens in his kitchen.

Ben didn’t even know if he could face the man after that. Psycho gave him a kiss goodbye before he’d ridden off to work and Ben couldn’t get back to his house fast enough.

First, he’d walked in on some strange, beautiful woman straddling Psycho and another lying beside him. He didn’t get jealous, at least he hadn’t before, but the sight of Psycho touching someone else nearly broke his heart.

“I heard the trailer was a’rocking.”

He spun to find Lucky peeking around the door, then Landon, Twitch, and Elijah appeared. That’s when what Lucky said registered.

“What are you talking about,” Ben’s high-pitched voice caused his face to flame hotter.

“Oh, don’t play innocent, you let Psycho have the booty.”

“Lucky, we’re not here to embarrass him.” Elijah pushed Lucky out of the way.

“Y’all may not be, but I totally am.”

Ben looked around for an exit to escape from. He could put the bakery up for sale and run off to be a hermit somewhere.

“Ignore him.” Landon walked up to him and threw his arm around Ben. “Welcome to the crews, that’s what he was supposed to say.”

“Also, we’re familiar with Psycho’s, shall we say, proclivities.”

“Elijah, quit sounding all fancy, the fucking man is a freak,” Lucky said practically bouncing on his toes.

“I don’t think this is appropriate,” Ben said as he went back to sterilizing his prep tables.

Ignoring them was probably pointless, but he could at least try.

“Ben,” Twitch reached across the table to grab his hands. “Listen I saw the way you ran after Psycho left. You couldn’t get back to your house fast enough. We’re just here to help, and we couldn’t shake Lucky.”

“Hey, I’m helpful, I got a man.”

“But Priest is a bit—”

“Don’t say he’s crazy, my bear is perfect.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Landon rolled his eyes. “Elijah, you’re up.”

“Psycho has some issues. Poor impulse control being the main one. His temper would make fake Lucifer piss his pants.
